Genre film reserach study
FILM: PRECIOUS
·
Camera shots, angles, movements, focus and
framing observations and the meanings they create. Use detailed examples.
m- - The Opening scene of this movie made it start with the feelings and meanings of claustraphobic. The camera used close ups to exaggerate facial expressions. They use shaky camera movements to emphasize the uneasy tension during conflict. The camera often lingers on details such as bruises as well.
·
Editing techniques and the tone, mood or
meaning they help create.
_ -Quick cuts are used during moments of abuse making it seem chaotic and give it more of a tension feeling behind the scenes. The tone is bleak but the subject is heavy. However there are moments of hope and resiliance that used brighter tones and slower less quick cut moments to highlight these scenes.
·
Sound techniques and their impact on the
tone and meaning.
- Sound plays a crucial role in making the atomesphere of the movie. Sounds of arguements or muffled sounds of the outside world makes it seem like we want to escape. Silence is used to emphasize moments of vulnerablility.
·
Mise-en-scene techniques: lighting, wardrobe,
make-up, setting, set, props- what connotations and layers of meaning to they
have?
- it is used to create the harsh reality of the movie. The lighting is often dim and harsh and wardrobe is simple and worn out making the character picture as someone who is in poverty or who has been neglected. The cluttered and ran-down apartment highlights the feeling of giving up. Objects and acts of abuse are used to tell the story of lives.
